Undergraduate Scholarships for Jewish Studies Majors

The Melton Center for Jewish Studies offers an annual competitive scholarship of up to $2000 to undergraduate students majoring in Hebrew, Yiddish, or Jewish studies. The purpose is to reward and encourage excellence in Jewish studies. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of academic performance and commitment to the goals of Jewish scholarship. If you are interested in applying for the award, please check with the Melton Center for deadlines and return the following information:
  1. This completed form;
  2. An OSU transcript, not a photocopy
  3. Two letters of recommendation from faculty members, including at least one letter from a member of the Ohio State Jewish studies faculty.
  4. Submit a one-page statement about the role of Jewish studies in your education and your plans for the future. You may submit this document on-line.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Enrollment as an undergraduate at OSU
  2. Major in Hebrew, Yiddish or Jewish Studies
  3. Minimum 3.0 GPA in all course work at OSU
  4. Minimum of 15 completed hours of course work in the area of the major, of which at least 10 hours will be on the 400-level or above
  5. Course work which will be considered applicable toward the scholarship must have been completed at OSU (work completed abroad as 697 will be considered as work done at OSU)

Undergraduate Scholarships in Jewish Studies


Student Conference Travel (Applications Accepted Year-round) Up to $500 per student per year is available for travel to an academic conference in which the student delivers a paper on a topic related to Jewish Studies; up to $100 is available for travel to a Jewish Studies conference in which a student does not read a paper.

Student Travel & Research (Applications Accepter Year-round) Up to $500 per undergraduate and $600 per graduate student is available for travel or research that is clearly related to a major project in Jewish Studies that forms part of the student's academic program.
