Undergraduate Programs

Jewish Studies Courses

Note: To set up an advising appointment, please contact Professor Matt Goldish. The Melton Center helps to coordinate a large number of undergraduate and graduate courses at Ohio State. Each year faculty in affiliated departments offer courses that emphasize various aspects of Jewish studies, as well as Hebrew and Yiddish language and literature. In addition, the Center offers a basic introductory course in Jewish Studies. Interdisciplinary courses are occasionally offered. Undergraduates can major or minor in Jewish Studies, Hebrew, and Yiddish, as well as focus on Jewish topics in Comparative Studies, English, History, Philosophy, Political Science and Womens Studies.

Undergraduate Major

Students can develop a comprehensive and well-rounded interdisciplinary major in Jewish studies. This is a 50-hour major.

The Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Minor

This allows students to complement courses in their own majors with a minor program in Jewish studies. The minor program consists of no fewer than 25 credit hours.

Hebrew Certification Program

The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, in collaboration with the College of Education, is accredited as a State of Ohio certificate program in Hebrew. Students who complete the program are certified to teach Hebrew in pre-collegiate schools.
