Join our advanced text study program
The Melton Center’s advanced text study program offers participants the opportunity to study Jewish topics from an academic perspective. The sessions, held twice a month on Zoom during the academic year, are 1.5 hours long and led by our faculty.
This past year we studied a range of topics that included historical approaches to Italian Jewish humanists in the Renaissance; medieval Jewish perspectives on the Bible as literature; the Israel-Hamas War; perceptions of Greek and Latin literature by German Jewish thinkers in the early 20th century; poetry from Israeli and Palestinian perspectives; the role of dance in Fiddler on the Roof and at New York’s 92nd Street YM/YWHA; and relationships between stories from the Hebrew Bible and the Quran. What makes the program unique is lively discussion. There are short reading assignments before each session and there is no cost to join.
