The Melton Center for Jewish Studies is pleased to present a program featuring distinguished historian Hillel Cohen of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Professor Cohen will discuss his new book on the history of the multifaceted relationships between Arabs, Middle Eastern Jews, and European Jews in pre-state Palestine and later Israel. Covering the period from the late 19th century to the present, Cohen explores Arab-Jewish relations through the prism of the ethnic divide within Jewish society, and inter-Jewish ethnic tensions through the prism of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The discussion will throw new light on the impact of ethnicity, religion and class on political solidarity and violence.
