ARCHIVED EVENT

Ohio State's Center for the Study of Religion is excited to host visiting scholar Elliot Ratzman for a series of events this semester.

His first event will be this lecture on Wednesday, January 31- "Jewish Pacifism from Joshua to Gaza." An American Jewish pacifism emerged among rabbis, activists, and thinkers in the decades following WWI. In this presentation, Ratzman traces the rise of a distinct Jewish “peace tradition” that articulated a theology of Jewish non-violence in the wake of the Holocaust, the rise of the State of Israel, and the persistence of antisemitism.

Elliot Ratzman is Visiting Professor in the Religion Department at Earlham College where he teaches courses in Jewish Studies, ethics, and philosophy of religion. Previously he taught at Swarthmore, Temple, Lawrence University, and Grinnell. He is finishing a book on the Jewish ethics and anti-racism, Zipporah’s Knife: A Reckoning with Race.

This event is free and open to the public. Convenient parking at the Ohio Union parking garage which is across the street from Hagerty Hall.
