Join the Melton Center for Jewish Studies at The Ohio State University for a roundtable discussion of Hannah Kosstrin’s Kinesthetic Peoplehood: Jewish Diasporic Dance Migrations. Respondents will reflect on the book’s contributions to the fields with which it intersects, including Jewish Studies, Israel Studies, diaspora and exile, dance studies, and South Asia studies. Following brief remarks by the author and invited panelists, the event will conclude with discussion and audience Q&A.
Speaker Bio:Alexander Kaye is a scholar of modern Jewish thought whose research focuses on Jewish political thought, legal history, and theories of Jewish modernity. He is also a leading specialist in Israel Studies, with particular expertise in the intersections of law, religion, and politics in Israel and the history of religious Zionism. His most recent book, The Invention of Jewish Theocracy (Oxford University Press, 2020), examines the intellectual and political origins of theocratic ideas in modern Jewish thought. He has also written on Jewish historiography and, together with David N. Myers, co-edited The Faith of Fallen Jews: Yosef Hayim Yerushalmi and the Writing of Jewish History (2013), a collection dedicated to one of the twentieth century's most influential historians of Jewish history.
