Associate Professor of History and Jewish Studies
Pennsylvania State University
The majority of Polish Jews who survived World War II did so in the Soviet interior. Yet very little is known about their wartime struggles. This talk will explore how over 200,000 Jewish refugees found themselves deep within Soviet territory when the Germans invaded, the privations they experienced there, and their traumatic return to Poland after the war. Focusing on this group helps us to understand the vast scope of the Holocaust as well as the difficult plight of refugees.
