Join Our Community Text Study Program
The Melton Center’s Community Text Study program offers participants the opportunity to study Jewish topics from an academic perspective. The sessions, held twice a month on Zoom during the academic year, are ninety minutes long and led by Melton Center faculty and moderated by the Melton Center Community Outreach Representative, Tamar Becker.
This past year we studied a range of topics that included Jewish life in Renaissance Italy; Jewish dance and cultural expression; Ethiopian Jewish migrations; ritual practice and communal authority; Karaite and Rabbinic traditions in the medieval world; Jewish engagement with Greek antiquity; Holocaust history and education; and contemporary issues related to Israel, including democracy, memory, national identity, and the Israeli Palestinian conflict.
What makes the program unique is lively discussion. There are short reading assignments before each session, and there is no cost to join.
